Are you guaranteed student housing on exchange?

Some of our partner institutions offer student housing for incoming exchange students, but in most cases, housing is not guaranteed.

You must familiarize yourself with your host institution's housing options and any application process in advance. You should also check the description for the relevant institution on your study program page to see if it contains information about accommodation.

Consider reading the experiences of previous students (only in Norwegian), or contacting any local student organizations.

If the host institution does not have available student housing or if there is competition for available accommodation, you should explore the private housing market.

Tips: If you rent student housing through SiS, you can sublet your accommodation to another student during your exchange period. Contact SiS Bolig for more information.

Ask your host institution

When you initiate the application process with the host institution, it is common for them to provide information about housing. Some institutions may require exchange students to live on campus, while others may not have student housing available.

Remember that your host institution has experience with incoming exchange students and is more familiar with the housing situation than UiS. Feel free to contact them along the way and inquire if they have any advice on how students typically find housing. Use their websites and any other resources available to gather information.

Be aware

Do not sign a housing contract until you have received final admission confirmation from your host university and have been granted any necessary visas.

We strongly advise against paying a deposit and signing contracts for unseen accommodation in the private market.
