Students have been affected by the fire that occurred in the student accommodations at Stareveien in Sandal Sunday, December 10.

Approximately 80 residents had to evacuate, and six were transported to the hospital according to the Student welfare association, SiS.
“Sunday morning brought us some very sad news. We are thinking of the students affected and are on standby to see how we can support them as the semester is coming to a close,” stated rector Klaus Mohn.
Apply for deferred exams
Students who are prevented from taking school exams or home exams due to this incident can apply for deferred exams and will be granted valid absence. This can be done by submitting an application through the Digital student service desk.
Go to the form named “Application regarding absence for a valid reason”. Documentation such as medical certificate is not necessary. UiS will obtain lists of students affected by the fire.
Deferred exams are typically conducted from the end of January to the end of February.

UiS is monitoring the situation
The University of Stavanger is in continuous contact with Stavanger municipality and the Student welfare association (SiS), who are responsible for student accommodation in Stavanger. Information will be posted on minsis.no, where there is also a contact phone number for those affected.
SiS also has a Questions and Answers document, which is being updated continually.
Stavanger municipality and SiS organised several information meetings on Sunday for affected students and their next of kin at Hotel Atlantic. UiS attended with rector Klaus Mohn, director of organisation and infrastructure Karoline Høibo, and director of Academic Affairs Bjarte Hoem.
Affected residents have been provided with hotel rooms. The municipality is offering assistance to those unable to retrieve their belongings, ensuring they get what they need.
Going forward, the University of Stavanger will follow up on students in need of adaptation of studies or special exams arrangements.
