University of Stavanger continues its collaboration with the European Consortium of Innovative Universities (ECIU) network, and looks to strengthen its position as a European University.
This was decided by the Board of the University of Stavanger on Thursday 10 February.
UiS has entered the final year of the pilot project ECIU University, the first European university where students and researchers collaborate with partners in society to solve real challenges. To date, more than 350 participants have solved 57 specific challenges across Europe, and the network has offered 82 micro-modules to students.
UiS has now decided to participate in the application for a new funding period (2022-2026) for ECIU University through the Erasmus + initiative Europan Universities.
Connected with Europe
"ECIU University helps us get to the forefront of education and to be connected to European developments in education. Through a European university, we test the possibilities in current regulations in Europe and Norway", says Vice-Rector for Education, Astrid Birgitte Eggen.
"We are also trying out initiatives that are outside the current regulations. When we talk about the education frontier, we also want to include innovation, entrepreneurship, green transition and how the university should contribute to the UN's sustainability goals in our study programmes, says Eggen.
Groundbreaking education
These are significant aspects of UiS's Strategy 2030, which states that UiS will be a pioneer in the field of education by exploring and establishing new ways of interacting, nationally and internationally. It is also the hub of the ECIU.
UiS cooperates well with Norwegian education authorities on European Universities. However, the university calls for more commitment from national political authorities on incentives to be at the forefront of education nationally and internationally.
