Content

Structural systems for buildings. Advanced knowledge on wood material and wood-based materials (solid timber, CLT (cross laminated timber), DLT/NLT (doweled laminated timber/nailed laminated timber), LVL (Laminated veneer lumber), etc.). Design of timber structures. Design of joints and connections. Introduction to European design rules for timber structures, Eurocode 5. Glulam and arch structures. Stability and bracing systems. Basic ultimate and serviceability state requirements.

Learning outcome

Through the course, the students will acquire general competence in designing the structure for a standard building or bridge according to background and basis of Design Rules. They will acquire knowledge about load-carrying timber structural systems, including connections. Students will be able to verify timber structures with respect to European Design Rules (Eurocode 5).

The folder is given as 3 separate submissions with an overall grade. The folder is made in groups of two to three people.Written exam with pen and paper.

Coursework requirements

Compulsory assignments which have to be passed to be allowed to sit the exam
One mandatory submission/exercise consisting of three assignments must be approved before admission to the exam.
