Content

The course provides an introduction to the interplay between urban planning and risk, safety and community development.

Students are introduced to introductory practical and theoretical issues that link safety and security with well-being in urban spaces; and how this is anchored through plans at different levels in public administration. This may include literature studies and classroom and group discussions to design urban planning solutions that best address the various threats. Such solutions may include, for example, surveillance technologies, site-specific crime prevention strategies, and the prevention of adverse events using environmental design (CPTED).

Be able to critically analyze the relationships between urban planning and risk.

Explain different ways of analyzing.

Explain how technology affects, exacerbates and helps goal achievement.

Understand and discuss key challenges and dilemmas in the authority's organization and follow-up of social security and various risk challenges in relation to the design of cities.
