Campus will be very cool while the new energy system is being installed.

This has to be done in order to connect the new energy centre to existing infrastructure on campus. The current gas-fired and electric boilers will be replaced with geothermal energy from 119 ground heat wells that have been drilled around the campus.

As a matter of necessity, the current heating and cooling systems must be disconnected in the process. This will affect most of the buildings on campus. The indoor temperature is expected to return to normal by the first working day after Easter.

The timing has been chosen because many employees and students are likely to be on vacation during this period, but some may still need to work or study. Here is information for those affected:

Warm zones

The University Library will be affected, but the administration will rent additional heaters to try and maintain warmth throughout the Easter period for students and other visitors. Since it is a large space, it is not guaranteed that the temperature will be optimal. Therefore, the library will also provide blankets that can be used as needed.

Buildings with other heat sources will not be affected. Specifically, this applies to:

  • Parts of the old building in Hulda Garborgs hus
  • Hagbard Line building (except for the K-wing)
  • All pavilions
  • Offices for The Reading Centre and Faculty of Health's department for public health in the OD / Ptil building
  • Buildings in IPARK (Arkivenes hus, i2, i3, i6, i7, and i8)

Open campus at Easter

Though it might get cold, no buildings will be closed. UiS follow regular opening hours.

The university library will be open 24/7 as usual. Visitors can receive assistance and guidance during staffed opening hours, which during Easter are as follows: Monday and Tuesday: 10:00 AM to 2:00 PM. Wednesday: 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM. On Saturdays during Easter, the library will be open as usual from 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM.

Feel free to ask if you need any further assistance!
