The PhD research fellows Yucong Ma and Zihao Wang as well as the researcher Dr. Xueliang Wen from the Department of Mechanical and Structural Engineering and Materials Science at the University of Stavanger were awarded the Outreach Scholarship to present their research work in the OMAE2023 conference. This was the 42nd International Conference on Ocean, Offshore & Arctic Engineering. The conference took place in Melbourne, Australia 11-16 June 2023.

This is the 15th year of the Outreach for Engineers Forum. Highlights of the Forum include presentations of the latest technology trends (covering ocean engineering, offshore engineering, civil engineering, petroleum engineering, aerospace engineering, mechanical engineering, structural engineering and project management), most in-demand job opportunities, possible career paths, and team building activities.

According to the UiS outreach winners, this scholarship provided them with a precious opportunity to communicate and team up with other young researchers and engineers. Moreover, they were given chance to discuss their innovative and practical engineering ideas with the leading experts in marine and offshore engineering.

There were also other UiS PhD researchers attending the conference. They did their best to present our UiS knowledge strength in marine and offshore technology to the international community and enhance the communication for possible international research collaboration with other universities, research institutes and companies.

"The OMAE conference is regarded as one of the largest and most prestigious conferences in marine, offshore and subsea technologies. It is very important for our researchers to present their work to the marine and offshore engineering community as well as communicate with other top researchers in the world," Prof. Muk Chen Ong said.

The Department of Mechanical and Structural Engineering and Materials Science (IMBM) was well represented in Melbourne with all together 13 participants from the different disciplines in the department. In addition to the participants granted the scholarship the following attended the conference: Muk Chen Ong, Chandima Ratnayake, Yanyan Sha, Guang Yin, Jon Erik Karlsen, Yu Ma, Jianan Zhang, Anja Schnepf, Yingjie Gu and Chao Ren. IMBM as a department is proud to have so many of their colleagues to represent UiS at OMAE 2023.
