Outdoor education and sports activities (IDR134)
The course will provide a basic understanding of some selected sports and outdoor activities adapted to multiple audiences. Progress in individual skills is based on the students developing practical and theoretical knowledge and skills. The students will receive an introduction to first aid and CPR, ice skating, orienteering, nordic skiing and alpine skiing. The students will also get to experience mountain skiing in the winter, and an autumn mountain hike which includes sleeping in a tent.

- Ski games and alpine skiing
- Mountain ski excursion (winter)
- Mountain hike and tenting (autumn)
Costs: Transport to compulsory excursions on the bachelor's programme in sports science is covered by the university. Costs related to indoor accommodations, food and personal equipment are covered by the student. We facilitate the free option to sleep in tents.
Learning outcome
Knowledge:
The student has to:
- Account for key rules and techniques in the selected activities.
- Have knowledge of methodology and progression related to skill development in the selected activities.
- Have knowledge of planning, execution and assessment of overnight trips in different seasons.
- Have knowledge about apropriate cloathing, equpment, map and compass.
- Have knowledge about safety rules (fjellvettregler) and be able to ensure the safety of themselves and others during outdoor trips and sports activities.
- Have knowledge of nature as an arena for learning and adventure.
Skills :
The student has to:
- Perform life saving and CPR by the pool.
- Master basic skills and demonstrate techniques from the selected sports and outdoor activities.
- Master basic skills in outdoor activities, such as camp life.
- Orient themselves by use of map and compass.
General competence:
The student will be able to:
- Work independently and with others in outdoor activities and in selected sports.
- Facilitate mastery in the selected sports activities, and various nature based settings.

The final assessment consists of six part exams, which will be graded as pass/not passed.The criteria to pass each part exam will be made available on Canvas
