Natalia Kucirkova er i sitt arbeid opptatt av sosial rettferdighet i barns leseferdighet og deres bruk av teknologier. Hun er professor i tidlig barndom og utvikling ved Universitetet i Stavanger; Professor i lesing og barns utvikling ved The Open University og gjesteprofessor ved University College London, Storbritannia.

Natalia forsker på barns bruk av medier og teknologier. Hun er særlig interessert i barns bruk av e-bøker og leseferdighetsapper, spesielt i forhold til bruk av personlige data og algoritmer (digital tilpasning).

Hennes forskning foregår i samarbeid på tvers av akademia, privat- og offentlig sektor og organisasjoner. Hun er hovedutvikler av appen Our Story, og grunnlegger av Children's Digital Book Award og International Collective of Children's Digital Books.

Natalias arbeid er finansiert av de nasjonale forskningsrådene i Storbritannia og Norge. Hennes siste prosjekt fokuserer på luktebøker for barn som stimulerer barns luktesans. Natalia ble tildelt Emerald Global Impact Award og UKLA Best Academic Book Award i 2021. I tillegg ble hun tildelt Jacobs Foundation Research Fellow i 2021-2023 og er med dette den første “fellow” fra et norsk universitet.

Natalia blogger for The Psychology Today, og skrev kronikker til Wired, The Guardian, Washinton Post, Stavanger AftenbladAftenposten, Dagens Perspektiv og Forskning.no. Hun er medlem i Akademiet for Yngre Forskere, og hennes siste bok er The Future of the Self
