The department’s scientific profile is centred around patient safety, health technology, patients’ rights, and the involvement of service users, patients, and next of kin. These are all priorities for the national and international health services of the future.

Overall, we emphasise an interdisciplinary approach, featuring engagement from students, patients, users, and healthcare professionals in all core activities. We focus on simulation-based training and educational research, which enables healthcare professionals and students to learn under safe, but realistic conditions. This will prepare them to handle the healthcare challenges of the future.

Competence among department staff spans all levels of healthcare services: from national regulatory frameworks and policy making, to bedside patient treatment in primary, secondary, and prehospital services, to the coordination between these levels in both a national and an international context.

Research areas at the department:

  • Quality improvement and patient safety
  • E-learning, simulation, and health technology
  • Patient involvement and care coordination
  • Regulatory frameworks
